National Sleep Foundation Sleep Life
The National Sleep Foundation conducts regular clinical sleep trials to monitor and evaluate sleep habits. Previously, these trials were conducted in person at their laboratories, leading to skewed results as patients were placed into an unfamiliar environment.

The Problem
We were assigned to create a mobile solution to accommodate having clinical trials in a remote setting. This consisted of creating a mobile application for the patients to track and send data utilizing a wearable Fitbit device.
The Solution
I created the information architecture and UX design of the patient and administrative dashboard interfaces that provided appropriate feedback and summaries of the patient’s sleep data. I also created the main user interaction flow revolving around the user setting up and connecting the application to their Fitbit device, for the purposes of the application tracking and sending sleep data to both the patients and the research administrators.
User Flow
I started the design process by creating a high level userflow to map the overall experience the user has from setting up their Fitbit device to the application to sending a Post-Sleep Survey diagnostic. I documented any pain points and user needs which helped inform the functionality and requirements of the main features of the application
Wireframes
I created wireframes for the mobile application and administrative dashboard. The main challenge was finding a way to provide the correct sleep data to the patient while outlining the recommendations from NSF. Below are preliminary low fidelity wireframes that explored how the data could be displayed.
Final Design
Working with the lead visual designer and through usability testing, we reached the final design for both the mobile application experience and the dashboard interfaces for patients and research administrators.
