IRobot R&D

I have worked with IRobot’s Pasadena team on an R&D project. I served as a UX designer, responsible for User Experience artifacts such as industry research, information architecture and wireframes outlining the feature functionality. I have also conducted and participated in usability tests during the iterative project cycle. My team included fellow UX designers, visual designers, mobile app developers, robotics engineers, and project managers. Due to the confidential nature of the work, I am unable to demonstrate any deliverables or examples of design work.

Background

I was part of a team tasked to create a mobile interface for a smart home product. The project was originally in research and development phase, but began transitioning to a commercial development cycle.

As the product was transitioning to a commercial development cycle , more features were added  based on new product requirements.

  • Revised Information Architecture

In order to accommodate the new features I created a new site map and rearranged the existing app architecture based on what was most appropriate for the features at hand. I utilized card sorting exercises with my team as a main technique in determining the new app structure.

  • Industry Research

I conducted a Competitive Comparison Analysis on different smart home security products to research different methods on presenting data to users within the main dashboard. Furthermore, the client wanted to get more information on how different products structured their subscription service around cloud storage. The main aspects of my CCA focused on the main dashboard experience as well as subscription models for cloud storage.

  • Dashboard Design

After I presented the CCA findings and recommendations to the client, I started making user stories to describe the new proposed features of the video dashboard would function, using the findings from the CCA as basis. Based on the findings, I designed and iterated on user flows and wireframes to contain the newly revised dashboard.

  • Usability Testing

After the designs were completed for the main features, I created usability testing scripts and conducted user interviews with the interactive prototypes. I utilized the findings from the usability testing sessions to inform ways in which the User Experience of the product could be improved.
